Job Description
The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences invites applications from innovative and visionary psychological scientists and neuroscientists who are committed to the research, mentoring, and teaching missions of our department. The successful applicant will have a productive, visible, and well-funded research program and a clear vision for achieving even greater future success. We are also interested in candidates who will build interdisciplinary connections with the Iowa Neuroscience Institute or other entities across campus. The position is at the rank of associate or full professor and is open to candidates using human experimental, theoretical, clinical, or computational approaches to address problems in any area within the field. This position includes a generous startup package and a named chair or professorship. Review of applications begins September 25, 2024, and continues on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The position begins as early as August 2025.

This faculty position continues an extended period of departmental investment, highlighted by the recent completion of a new Psychological and Brain Sciences Building. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with basic and clinical scientists working in such areas as learning and plasticity, neural circuits, development, perception and cognition, cognitive control, sleep, and brain disorders. Our faculty contribute actively to the university’s large and vibrant neuroscience community that includes the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, an NIH supported Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience, a popular undergraduate major in neuroscience, and the NIH-funded iDream postbacalaureate program. The Behavioral-Biomedical Interface Training Program, also supported by NIH, creates unique opportunities for integrative and cross-disciplinary research. The DeLTA Center brings together researchers interested in all aspects of learning and development. There is also a growing community of computational scientists across campus.
There are extensive opportunities for collaboration with researchers in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Engineering, the College of Education, and the College of Public Health. Department faculty have ongoing collaborations with colleagues in such departments as Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Psychiatry, Biology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, Computer Science, Health and Human Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Public Health, and Otolaryngology. The university also supports a variety of institutes, centers, and facilities, including the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, the Magnetic Resonance Research Facility (which houses research-dedicated 3T and 7T scanners), the Center for Neurodegeneration, the Central Microscopy Research Facility, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Injury Prevention Research Center, and the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics.

· A PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or closely related field.
· An exceptional record of scholarship and external funding.
· A productive and innovative research program.
· A commitment to the research, mentoring, and teaching missions of the department.

The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences combines a long history of outstanding achievement with a modern commitment to interdisciplinary research. As the seventh oldest psychology department in the country, it has been home to such eminent psychologists as Kenneth Spence, Albert Bandura, and Leon Festinger. That tradition of research excellence continues today, reflected in part by the selection of its faculty members as recipients of many of our discipline's most prestigious awards.

The graduate program reflects our strong belief in the importance of hands-on training in the discipline, scholarly productivity, and methodological rigor.
