Job Description:

The Department of Psychology at Trinity University invites applications for a tenure-track position in health psychology, at the rank of assistant professor, beginning in Fall 2025. A Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related discipline is required by August of 2025, and the area of specialization should be health psychology (e.g., social determinants of health; health disparities; behavioral medicine). The successful applicant will demonstrate potential to be an excellent teacher and mentor, pursue an active research program with undergraduate students, and contribute to the department’s and university’s curricular needs. Candidates should be capable of teaching introductory courses and advanced courses in their areas of expertise. The ability to teach courses in related content areas (e.g., social psychology, clinical psychology) will also be considered. Successful candidates will have a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

The Psychology Department is a collegial group of 10 full-time faculty and we serve approximately 200 psychology and neuroscience majors. We are committed to a teacher-scholar model that couples high impact teaching practices with research excellence. We offer ample research space in a recently constructed science center, pre-tenure sabbatical, and support for research and travel. Our department is part of the D. R. Semmes School of Science that was recently endowed with a gift of $26 million to support students and faculty.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop an active research program with undergraduate students, resulting in peer-reviewed publications. 

Teach 5 course sections per academic year (i.e., 3-2 load, with no more than two preparations per semester) and support the academic mission of the department and university. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching introductory courses, as well as advanced undergraduate courses related to their area of expertise, and/or courses that contribute to general education curricular requirements. 

Advise and mentor research students and psychology majors.

Serve on university and departmental committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Required: Candidates will have a Ph.D. in Psychology or related subdiscipline (or expect to complete their Ph.D. by August, 2025)

Preferred:

The successful candidate preferably will have: 

  • Postdoctoral training;

  • Evidence of, or potential for, teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
