Job Description

The Department of Psychology at Southern Methodist University invites applications for a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor position in Psychological Clinical Science (Position No. 6336) to begin in August 2025. We are searching for a candidate with an outstanding research record to serve as the Director of Clinical Training in our Psychological Clinical Science Ph.D. program. Our APA accredited program is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. Accreditation by the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) is a goal of our program. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have previous academic leadership experience and knowledge regarding PCSAS and the Clinical Science training model. The specific area of research is open, as long as it is within psychological clinical science. Substantive research areas of particular interest include: (1) nosology/classification, etiology, measurement, prevention, and/or treatment of psychopathology (broadly defined); (2) diversity science (broadly defined) (3) risk or resiliency factors (broadly defined); (4) impact of societal problems (e.g., violence, racism) on mental and/or physical health. Successful candidates will have a collaborative approach to research and will have a track record of successfully generating external funding for research. Candidates also must be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Psychology runs a training clinic, which can be used for 
assessment/treatment research. Recent university-wide initiatives facilitate multi- and interdisciplinary research collaborations among faculty members, including the establishment of research clusters in Technology-Enhanced Immersive Learning and Data Science. The Moody School of Graduate and Advanced Studies offers many forms of support for doctoral students, including a range of research fellowships. SMU is also home to one of the fastest and most powerful academic supercomputers in the nation (ManeFrame III), which can handle large volumes of complex data as well as the ability to implement advanced algorithms for time-series analysis, data mining, computational modeling, AI, and machine learning.
