Visiting Assistant Professor - Psychology

  • Arcadia University
  • Glenside, PA, USA
Full time Animal Behavior

Job Description

The Department of Psychology at Arcadia University invites applicants for a full-time visiting faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The position will begin Fall, 2018 and is renewable for a second year based on first year performance. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental psychology with expertise in animal learning. The successful candidate will serve as lab supervisor for two required courses in the major. Each fall, the position will involve supervising multiple sections of a rat conditioning laboratory serving over 100 students. The lab supervisor will oversee care of the animals, teach students proper handling techniques, teach students to write APA research reports, and set-up and maintain conditioning control equipment and software. Each spring, the lab instructor will oversee multiple lab sections in which students design and execute original, IRB/IACUC-approved empirical studies. Lab instruction both semesters occurs in collaboration with the course instructors.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental psychology with expertise in animal learning.  The successful candidate will also be expected to teach one course each semester in their area of specialization and to undertake typical departmental service (such as academic advising).

Faculty in the psychology major work exclusively with undergraduates in a research-focused environment. Opportunities exist for supervising senior thesis research, working with summer research students, and employing undergraduates as research technicians. Full-time faculty members at Arcadia typically teach a 3-3 load; at present, lab sections constitute two-thirds of that load each semester for this visiting assistant professor position.
