Nevada State College invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology positions to start August 2019.

The preferred candidates will be passionate about teaching and fostering student success among a highly diverse undergraduate student population. Candidates should be able to teach core courses in the psychology curriculum (Introductory Psychology, Research Methods, or Statistics) as well as their area of focus; approximately half of faculty’s instructional load is dedicated to core courses in the psychology curriculum. Candidates should be able to teach courses in one or more of the following specialties: biological/physiological, sensation/perception, clinical/abnormal, cognitive, or developmental. About Psychology at NSC

The psychology program at NSC is housed within the multidisciplinary Department of Social Sciences and currently has four full-time faculty. Psychology is the largest degree program at NSC, serving over over 350 psychology majors, 180 psychology minors, and 80 counseling minors. We are dedicated to providing students with rigorous academic preparation in the science of psychology. For example, all majors are required to complete a capstone course in either advanced research methods or supervised clinical field experience. This preparation emphasizes an empirical approach to the study of psychology with a concerted focus on the use of research methodology and evidence-based strategies to better understand and solve problems. Ultimately, our program aims to cultivate well-rounded students with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and lifelong learning skills needed to succeed in the workplace and/or in graduate school.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year (four courses per semester).
  • Teach lower- and upper-level courses in psychology.
  • Advise majors/minors and serve on departmental/college-wide committees.
  • Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field (Candidates who are ABD are eligible with the expectation that the Ph.D. will be completed by July 31, 2019).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a genuine interest in joining NSC.
  • Ability to teach:
    • Introductory Psychology
    • Research Methods and/or Statistics
    • Courses in one or more of the following specialties: biological/physiological,sensation/perception, clinical/abnormal, cognitive, or developmental
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor visas for international employees).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated dedication to or interest in working with a diverse student population.
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduates in research.
  • Experience in web-based learning management systems.
  • Experience with (or desire to teach) online, hybrid, or evening classes.

Rank, Salary & Benefits

  • Rank of Assistant Professor; tenure-track
  • Budgeted salary is $72,000 per year (for 9-month appointment) with opportunities for additional overload pay in winter and summer sessions.
