Job Description

The Psychology Program (psych.csuci.edu) at CSU Channel Islands invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Psychology with specialization in Cognitive Psychology or Developmental Psychology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a strong research program, preferably involving undergraduate students. CI seeks candidates with a proven commitment to an interdisciplinary, integrative, and innovative approach to teaching and learning, including the use of technology to improve student engagement and success, with excellence in research and scholarship as well as a commitment to service and shared governance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited university, with specialization in Cognitive Psychology or Developmental Psychology.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Commitment to the teacher-scholar model.
  • Evidence of published scholarship appropriate to the Teacher-Scholar model and rank, or potential thereof.
  • Evidence of commitment to a student-centered environment.
  • As a condition of employment, this position will require a background check. The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to involve undergraduate students in psychological research.
  • Evidence of commitment and ability to work with a variety of psychologists and faculty from other disciplines.
  • Post-doctoral research experience.
  • Willingness to teach a broad spectrum of psychology courses.
  • Experience in the use of innovative instructional strategies and technologies.
  • Experience with development and assessment of curriculum and programs in psychology.
  • One year of effective teaching of psychology at the university level.
  • Advanced training beyond the doctorate in psychology, or outside of psychology, or in an interdisciplinary area.
  • Experience advising students.
