Postdoctoral Fellowship Focusing on Teen Suicide Risk

Christine Cha, PhD, Director of the Laboratory for Clinical and Developmental Studies (www.clinicaldevelopmentalstudies.com) at Teachers College, Columbia University, is accepting applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the area of teen suicide risk. This position would involve studying various risk factors (e.g., childhood adversities, cognitive processes) for suicidal and self-injurious thoughts and behaviors among adolescents and young adults. This program of research ultimately aims to improve youth mental health in several areas of functioning (e.g., social, emotional, academic). The postdoctoral fellow will assist with the following duties: (1) manuscript preparation from existing datasets; (2) training and supervision of research assistants and graduate students for ongoing research studies funded by NIMH and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; (3) hospital-based data collection/management; and other duties or projects as assigned. Grant-writing and furthering the fellow’s independent line of research will also be encouraged. Salary is $65,000/year + benefits across 2 years.

Required Qualifications: Applicants with a PhD in Clinical Psychology or related discipline. Applicants must demonstrate excellent scientific writing and data analytic skills, as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with clinical research or clinical experience (e.g., suicide risk assessment, safety planning, diagnostic interviewing) and/or previous study coordination experience on federally-funded studies will be given preference.
