Organizational Unit Overview
East Carolina University ( is a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University, and a member of the 17-campus University of North Carolina System. The University enrolls around 29,000 students, with over 5,500 pursuing graduate and professional degrees. ECU is located in Greenville, NC (pop. 91,500), which lies about 80 miles east of Raleigh and a short distance from the Atlantic coast. The Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences is home to 16 academic departments. Harriot College faculty are well recognized on campus, nationally, and internationally for their efforts in research, teaching, and service, as evidenced by publications in leading journals, and by the numerous awards and professional appointments that they have received. Harriot College departments offer degrees at the bachelor's level, and in some departments at the Master's and Doctoral levels.

The Department of Psychology ( has 38 full-time faculty members, over 800 undergraduate majors and minors, Master's programs in School and Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and a doctoral program in Health Psychology. The Health Psychology program is comprised of three separate training concentrations in Clinical Health Psychology, Occupational Health Psychology, and Pediatric School Psychology. The Department also participates in an interdisciplinary BA/BS program in Neuroscience and offers a graduate certificate in Quantitative Methods for the Social Sciences. Psychology faculty routinely receive College and University-level teaching awards and are recognized nationally and internationally for their scholarship and professional leadership. Faculty have recently received grants funded from HRSA, IES, NCI, NHLBI, NIMH, and NSF. Finally, faculty routinely collaborate across ECU's two campuses, and have established connections with Criminal Justice, Dental Medicine, Education, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Cardiology.

Job Duties
The Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialization in Quantitative Psychology, beginning August 10, 2020, contingent upon available funding. The successful applicant will develop an active research program, secure extramural funding, contribute to the graduate certificate in Quantitative Methods for the Social Sciences and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in statistics and research design/methods.

The primary teaching responsibilities for this position will be undergraduate and graduate statistics. In addition to statistics and research design, the successful applicant will also teach/consult in such substantive areas as multivariate statistics, structural equation modeling, hierarchal linear modeling, item response theory, Bayesian statistics, big data methods, or mixture models at the graduate level. Although not required, the ability to affiliate with one of our existing graduate programs and make a substantive contribution to graduate education in that area is considered quite advantageous.

Minimum Education/Experience
A PhD in Psychology or related discipline including but not limited to Education or Public Health is required. Qualifying degrees must be conferred by an appropriately accredited institution.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
The ideal candidate will have an established research program that utilizes advanced quantitative methods such as structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, item response theory, Bayesian statistics, big data methods, mixture models etc. The successful candidate is expected to establish a collaborative, synergistic, productive, and externally funded research program, and to be an excellent teacher at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
