The Department of Psychology at San José State University (SJSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU is part of one of the most innovative regions in the world. SJSU combines dynamic teaching, research, and university-industry experiences and affords many opportunities for the study and practice of I/O psychology. 

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in I/O Psychology or related field by time of appointment; area of specialization within I/O Psychology is open.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Commitment to, and demonstrated potential for, teaching excellence and productive scholarly activity.
  • Commitment to seeking external funding to support research-related activities or student learning.
  • Ability to take an active leadership role in the Department’s Master’s degree program in I/O Psychology.
  • Ability to work effectively and lead in governance at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Previous consulting experience (internal or external).


San José State University is a teaching institution that values mentored research. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include undergraduate and graduate courses in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and, as needed by the department, courses in writing in psychology, statistics, research methods, and introductory psychology.

The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a productive research program and pursue internal and external funding. Student mentoring is valued in our department, and the successful candidate will advise, mentor and support undergraduate and graduate students in their academic, research, and professional pursuits.

The candidate will take an active leadership role in the Department’s Master’s degree program in I/O Psychology, including serving on thesis committees and developing internship and professional opportunities for students. The candidate will also participate in service through membership on department, college, and university committees, and may contribute to interdisciplinary curricular needs or diversity research and issues at the college and university levels. 

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 13, 2020
