Job Description

The Shepherd University Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track assistant professor position in clinical psychology to begin August 2020. The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical psychology and a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Candidates should be able to teach PSYC 309 Abnormal Psychology, PSYC 310 Psychology of Personality, and PSYC 311 Introduction to Clinical Psychology. The ability to teach PSYC 270 Well-Being and Happiness, PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology, and other courses that meet department needs, especially in the senior capstone sequence, is desirable. There will also be opportunities to develop courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate should be able to coordinate the department’s undergraduate clinical practicum program, including serving as liaison between practicum sites and the department and teaching the PSYC 313 Clinical Practicum class that accompanies the off-campus experience. While teaching is the primary responsibility, Shepherd faculty are expected to engage in advising, professional development, and service to the university and the community. A background in research, grant writing, and previous undergraduate teaching are highly desirable. The typical course load is four classes per semester. The department values candidates who have a demonstrated ability to contribute to the inclusive excellence and diversity mission of the department, college, and university.

Minimum qualifications: The candidate must have completed a doctoral degree in clinical psychology by the time of employment.

Preferred qualifications: The ideal candidate will either be currently licensed or qualified to be licensed to practice psychology in the state of West Virginia.
