Location: Washington, DC – Hybrid: 2 Days Onsite & 3 Days Remote

The Association for Psychological Science (APS), a Washington, DC-based scientific organization, seeks a motivated, detail-oriented, and organized individual for the Membership Data Specialist position.

This individual will enter and manage information in APS’s membership database, Impexium, to maintain current, high-quality data to be used in membership recruitment, retention, and engagement. Significant research, data analysis, data management, and data cleansing is required on a daily basis.

The person in this position will work with Membership and IT team members to organize member and prospect data and develop and maintain reports to forecast and track dues revenue, member trends, and individual member information in order to drive strategic decision-making. Additionally, this individual will contribute to the development of best practices for data management and serve as an educator, training fellow staff members on the database. The Membership Data Specialist will work with other departments on an as-needed basis to fulfill specific research requests and monitor data integrity.

  • Evaluate and categorize member and non-member demographic data.
  • Develop and keep current profiles for APS members and recruits in the database.
  • Monitor information on prospective members and organize/prioritize prospect lists.
  • Assist with development of recruitment and retention lists.
  • Manage the annual membership dues forecast model.
  • Monitor member gains, renewals, and drops and report regularly on the status of each.
  • Identify and report on trends within various member groups and fields of psychological science.
  • In cooperation with the Finance Team, track and report dues revenue on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor membership development metrics to analyze program effectiveness. Work with other APS departments to implement and integrate association-wide data into an effective tool for membership reporting, retention, and recruitment purposes.
  • Support initiatives to update and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data management.
  • Attend APS conferences.
  • Assist with general membership inquiries and membership applications as needed.



  • 2-5 years’ experience in data management
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong analytical skills, with acute attention to detail and logical, critical thinking.
  • Experience with large & complex data sets
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and standard proficiency with other Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) tools
  • Proficiency with association management system (AMS) and customer relationship management (CRM) software. Experience with Impexium a plus
  • Strategic thinker that is ethical, leads by example, and is comfortable working in teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as strong oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with psychological science a plus
