Job Description

Stony Brook University seeks a full-time postdoctoral fellow to conduct research with Drs. Roman Kotov (Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology) and H. Andrew Schwartz (Department of Computer Science). Duration and start time are negotiable.

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow for a position on a study to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools for assessment of PTSD and related psychopathology. It aims to recruit 1,000 participants with clinical PTSD symptoms to complete daily video diary and standard symptom assessments for 3 months. These data are unprecedent in mental health research, allowing investigation of hypotheses that were previous untestable. AI models will be trained using language, speech, and facial expressions to detect and predict PTSD symptoms. The resulting models will be validated against standard clinical measures. This study is associated with the World Well-Being Project, a consortium to advance measurement and understanding of mental health and well-being using AI techniques. Also, this study is part of a diverse research program on mental health of responders to World Trade Center disaster (12,000 responders undergoing regular monitoring) and opportunities are available to participate in research on genetic, psychological, and cognitive processes in PTSD.

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for designing studies, supervising staff, conducting analyses, preparing manuscripts, and writing grants. Ongoing training will be available in machine learning models, longitudinal analysis, grantsmanship, and substantive questions related to psychopathology. Clinical opportunities (e.g., diagnostic assessments) are also available, as well as supervision meeting licensure requirements.  Stony Brook University is a highly collaborative environment with close relationships between psychology, psychiatry, and computer science departments.

Qualifications include a 1) doctoral degree, 2) demonstrated expertise in psychopathology, as well as 3) a minimum of two first-authored publications. Familiarity with psychometrics, diagnostic interviewing, language and facial analysis, and experience coordinating externally-funded studies are highly desired.

To apply, please email Roman Kotov (roman.kotov@stonybrook.edu) with your CV and contact information of three references. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
