The Department of Psychology at San José State University (SJSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Clinical Psychology. Key focus areas in our department include community mental health, child/adolescent and family-focused services, real world application of evidence-based practices, and clinical work within multicultural and urban environments. The vision of the Psychology Department is to provide high-quality education in psychology that fosters the development of students so that they will make worthy contributions to society. We value a student-centered approach that emphasizes teaching, research, and applied training. The Department offers a BA in Psychology, MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling, MS Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and MA in Research and Experimental Psychology. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU was recently named the most transformative university in the nation.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited university, with training as a clinical scientist or scientist-practitioner, by August 2024
  • Either a licensed psychologist or license-eligible in California by the position start date, with the expectation of licensure within 2-3 years of hire (details on California licensure available at psychology.ca.gov).
  • Demonstrated scholarly productivity in the area of clinical psychology.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and within the MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program, which trains mental health practitioners to provide evidence-based services in community mental health and/or school-based settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and provide clinical supervision to undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

  • Ability to work effectively in a collegial atmosphere of shared governance.
  • Commitment to seeking external funding to support research-related activities and/or to enhance student learning.
