The project bridges the fields of attention (i.e., how people detect a particular class of items, such as how a TSA agent detects dangerous items in baggage), categorization, and memory. Because the Marsh lab is focused on memory research, we seek someone with expertise in attention or categorization or object recognition who is also interested in learning and memory. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Psychology or Cognitive Science, and a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully juggle multiple projects, make connections across research areas, and to teach skills to graduate students and undergraduates. Expected skills include: programming, MTurk data collection, data analysis. Machine learning knowledge is desirable but not required. Responsibilities will include collaborating on the development of research questions, stimuli creation, programming experiments, data collection and analysis, manuscript and grant preparation, IRB submissions, and the supervision of students and research assistants. This position will provide the opportunity to interact with scientists across Duke, including a rich community of memory researchers, a large cognitive neuroscience community, and machine learning experts. This position has full benefits and salary will be determined based on current NIH scales. The initial appointment will be for one year, with renewal based on continuation of grant support and success in the position. Review of candidates will begin seven days after the job posts to academic jobs online, until the position is filled. The start date is summer 2019, with some flexibility in the exact date. Applicants should upload the following to academicjobsonline.org: a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, three selected reprints/preprints, and contact information for three references.
