SUMMARY OF POSITIONS:
The Department of Psychology at The University of Tulsa (TU) seeks candidates to fill 2 full-time positions in Clinical Psychology beginning August 15, 2020. One is a tenure track position and the other is a 1-year visiting professor position. Faculty have a 9 month contract period (Aug 15-May 15). Successful candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and supervise the clinical work of graduate students. The tenure-track candidate is expected to develop a funded research program. QUALIFICATIONS :
Tenure-track: Applicants for the tenure-track position must have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program and be licensed or license-eligible in Oklahoma. The applicant should have a strong record of programmatic research, external funding (or the potential to secure funding), and an interest and ability to contribute to clinical supervision of students at the Department’s training clinic. The area of research specialization is open, but preference will be given to those with a strong quantitative background who use cutting-edge methodology and seek to incorporate psychobiological and/or cognitive processes.
Visiting professor: Applicants for the visiting professor position must have a PhD in Clinical Psychology or a related field. If licensed, the visiting professor may also have the opportunity to supervise the clinical work of graduate students.
For both positions, the clinical program seeks to fill teaching gaps not covered by existing faculty including, but not limited to: objective personality assessment, psychopathology, cognitive psychology, addictive behavior, and intellectual assessment. Interdisciplinary interests are encouraged and it is important that the candidates share our commitment to the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of students from a wide range of underrepresented and marginalized groups including those from diverse racial, ethnic, and LGBTQAIP backgrounds.
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM:
The Clinical Psychology program at TU is APA accredited and adheres to the scientist-practitioner model. The faculty is small, collegial, and committed to research, with strong ties to community organizations. Several faculty are members of interdisciplinary research institutes. Our goal is to train professionally competent clinical psychologists with a broad background in the field of psychology who can apply psychological theory, assessment, research methodology, and clinical skill to complex clinical problems. Our students go on to obtain both clinical and academic positions in child and adult specialties. The program has an in-house training clinic that provides free therapy and psychological assessment services for all ages, with an emphasis on underserved populations. The clinic provides foundational training to graduate students in the program prior to their seeking external practicum experiences from a wide variety of community placements.
ENVIRONMENT:
TU is a small, private university with approximately 4500 undergraduate and graduate students. It is located in midtown Tulsa, approximately 2 miles from downtown. Both areas are undergoing an exciting period of growth and are home to vibrant art and music scenes, as well as a new brewery district. Tulsa is a mid-sized (population ~400,000), family-friendly, affordable place to live, with easy access to urban, suburban, and rural areas. The city of Tulsa is nestled in an area where the Creek, Cherokee, and Osage tribal territories share a common boundary. Tulsa is also home to The Gathering Place , an expansive riverside park, that Time magazine calls “One of the World’s Greatest Places” ( https://www.gatheringplace.org/ ). Oklahoma is geographically diverse, including plains, grasslands, rocky mesas, and mountains, and is culturally unique as it is home to 39 federally-recognized Native American tribes.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES :
All tenure-track faculty within the Department are expected to engage in teaching (undergraduate, graduate), research, and service. Visiting faculty are expected to engage in teaching (undergraduate, graduate) and service.
