The University of Maryland Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security ( ARLIS ) seeks to hire a postdoctoral research associate to work on projects studying spread, impact, and countering of misleading and harmful information. This research supports ARLIS’s larger program in Cognitive Security, which encompasses online and offline influence — and protection from influence — of people ranging from individuals to large societies. Current studies cover topics including differential spread of COVID -19 falsehoods among US language communities, and the use of crowdsourcing platforms to detect and measure impacts of adversarial messaging campaigns.
The research associate is expected to help design, run, and analyze human subjects experiments on responses to misleading narratives and interventions intended to mitigate their effect, as well as analyzing data from existing datasets and media corpuses.
