The Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago seeks a postdoctoral researcher to design and implement research projects to test the effectiveness of teaching methods that incorporate gesture or spatial highlighting tools for math learning in hearing and deaf children and adults from diverse backgrounds. The research also includes the development and testing of an online tool that incorporates gesture for teaching mathematics. Postdoctoral fellow position (2-3 years) available on an NIH-funded project headed by Drs. Renee Thompson and Tammy English (Co-PIs) along with Todd Braver (Co-I) in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. The project (R01AG070139; Neural and motivational mechanisms of age-related change in emotion regulation) examines the role of motivation and depressive psychopathology in age-related changes in emotion and emotion regulation across adulthood. The multi-method project utilizes diagnostic interviews, experience sampling, behavioral measures, peripheral psychophysiology assessment, and neuroimaging.
