Postdoctoral Research Associate (SDAD) - Biocomplexity
The Social & Decision Analytics Division (SDAD) is seeking applications for multiple postdoctoral associates in statistics and social and behavioral sciences. SDAD is a leading laboratory in the Biocomplexity Institute & Initiative (BII) at the University of Virginia. BII performs world-class informatics research in life sciences, social sciences, and human health by integrating theory, modeling and simulation with computational and experimental science in a transdisciplinary, team science research environment. SDAD combines expertise in statistics and social and behavioral sciences to develop evidence-based research and quantitative methods to inform policy decision-making and evaluation. The researchers at SDAD span many disciplines including statistics, economics, sociology, psychology, political science, policy, health IT, public health, program evaluation, and data science.   SDAD researchers address complex social problems by leveraging the diversity of data flows available today including administrative and government records, surveys, social media, and sensors. Through team collaboration, the postdoctoral candidate is expected to develop the capacity to discover, repurpose and redirect these data flows to solve critical social problems. Computational complexity is at the heart of SDAD research and SDAD leverages all the research capability of BII, along with the High Performance Computing infrastructure. The positions will be offered at the rank of postdoctoral associate and will be located in BII's location in Arlington, VA. Position reports to Sallie Keller, Director of SDAD and Professor of Public Health Sciences. The anticipated start date for the position is May of 2020, earlier start dates will be considered. Required Qualifications: Applicants must be on track to receive a PhD in statistics, social and behavioral sciences, digital humanities or in a very closely related field by May of 2020 and must hold a PhD at the time of appointment. Experience with advanced approaches to statistics and data-driven model development. Experience with statistical programming languages such as R programming and databases. Postdoctoral Fellow in Gesture Research at the University of Alberta
A postdoctoral position in gesture research is available in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta, working with Dr. Elena Nicoladis and Dr. Paula Marentette. This project is focused on understanding the relationship between visual analysis of a scene, language choice, and gesture production. Knowledge of a language other than English and/or experience with eye-tracking would be assets. Postdoctoral Research Associate at Purdue University Position Summary Seeking to hire one or two postdoctoral researchers to collaborate with me across two grants on preschool children’s mathematical language development. One project is a National Science Foundation funded grant evaluating the impacts of mathematical language instruction on mathematics and spatial skills in preschool children. The other project is the final stages of evaluating a parent implemented mathematical language intervention for monolingual English speakers and dual language learners. The positions have the potential to be for up to two or three years depending on performance.   Responsibilities may include: intervention development, manuscript preparation, project management, presentation of findings, development of coding schemes for video and audio recordings, and development and implementation of dissemination events for families and schools. The Blum Center mission focuses on poverty; understanding the psychological foundations of compassion and empathy; and psychological adjustment in response to studying or living in environments disrupted by extreme events such as war and natural disaster. The area of specialization must be related to psychological processes that fits within the broad mission of the UC Blum Center, although we are particularly interested in candidates who would contribute to the social/personality area. Expertise in interventions/applied settings would also be particularly welcomed. Applicants who have active research programs in related areas of intergroup processes, stigma and prejudice, interpersonal relationships, emotional experience, morality and prosocial behavior, and collective action, or who study broader issues of poverty alleviation and health disparities/inequalities are strongly encouraged to apply. VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY – PERSONALITY/DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY:   The Union College Department of Psychology seeks an excellent teacher-scholar specializing in personality and/or developmental psychology for a period of three years, with the possibility of extending to five.  The area of specialization is open, but the successful candidate will be able to offer our 200-level personality psychology course.  We will prioritize candidates who can also teach developmental courses.  An ability to teach statistics and introductory psychology would also be helpful.  Our new colleague might also contribute to the College’s general-education program by teaching a first-year preceptorial or sophomore research seminar.  These general-education courses are aimed at non-majors, focus on a topic of the faculty member’s choosing, and develop students’ writing, thinking, and secondary research skills.  We expect that our new colleague will establish and maintain a high-quality research program that involves undergraduate students.  PhD by appointment date preferred.  Union College recognizes the rich possibilities of interdisciplinary studies. The Psychology department currently provides support for the Gender Sexuality and Women’s Studies and Neuroscience programs.
