Seeking a postdoctoral research scholar with prior research and mental health training to work on a mobile health and depression study. The position will start in late Spring or Summer 2021 at the Center for Healthy Minds, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Simon B. Goldberg, Heather C. Abercrombie and Richard J. Davidson are recruiting a motivated and creative postdoctoral scholar for a project evaluating a mobile health intervention for depression. The intervention is based in contemplative practices and designed to improve well-being and reduce depression. The study will evaluate intervention-related behavioral changes. In addition, affective computing methods will be used in the development of novel “passive” measures of the plasticity of well-being that can be derived from natural speech. Drs. Primal world beliefs (‘primals’) are beliefs about the basic character of the world, such as the world is dangerous or the world is abundant . Historically, only one primal has been widely studied—belief in a just world—and it is thought to have a cascading influence across personality and well-being variables because it informs the interpretation of ambiguity, leading in this case to increased productivity, prosociality, and well-being. The contract is for one year, with option of renewal pending satisfactory performance. POSITION DESCRIPTION : The ideal candidate will be interested in contributing to on-going research in the lab. One trajectory broadly examines the methods, validity, interpretation, and application of measures of implicit social cognition. The other examines the development and impact of social biases in judgment, and how such biases can be reduced.
