The Department of Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in child development. Area of expertise is open, but individuals with a focus on school-age/adolescent development, child assessment, or parenting are especially encouraged to apply.
We are seeking a teacher/scholar with proven teaching ability who could offer undergraduate and graduate courses in such areas as child assessment, exceptional children, parenting and family relations, psychopathology of childhood, middle childhood and adolescent development, and developmental research methods. Candidates must exhibit research potential as evidenced by engaging in publishable research in their area of expertise, and possess the capability to attract and mentor students in their research area. Potential for securing external funding is also a consideration. The University’s Institute for Child Development and Family Relations (ICDFR) supports a number of vital research and service initiatives in our local communities that would provide unique opportunities for the successful candidate. These include the Infant-Toddler Success/Parenting Project, the Parental Intervention Program (for justice-involved parents), Quality Start San Bernardino, the Infant-Toddler Lab School, as well as academic and cognitive skills assessment and training for children and adolescents, and a mentorship program for foster and homeless youth. The ideal candidate would have an interest in community engagement and in building relations with community child agencies.
A Ph.D. in child development, human development, family studies, or developmental psychology is expected at the time of appointment. The start date for the position is August 17, 2020.
