Postdoctoral Fellow in Gesture Research at the University of Alberta
A postdoctoral position in gesture research is available in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta, working with Dr. Elena Nicoladis and Dr. Paula Marentette. This project is focused on understanding the relationship between visual analysis of a scene, language choice, and gesture production. Knowledge of a language other than English and/or experience with eye-tracking would be assets. Applications from candidates with research training in psycholinguistics, cognitive science, (applied) linguistics, or developmental psychology will be particularly well suited for this position. Postdoctoral responsibilities will include contributing to our ongoing research program as well as taking the lead on research projects within that program. In addition, the person in this position will have the opportunity to work with the research programs of graduate and undergraduate students associated with the lab. The position, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, is available for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Moffitt Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is seeking a faculty member in the tenure-earning rank of Assistant/Associate Member with preference for strong expertise in behavioral statistics. Moffitt is affiliated with the University of South Florida and a University appointment is available in the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor as applicable. Methodological research is also expected. The Department currently has 18 faculty and approximately 27 staff engaged in a wide range of statistical and bioinformatics research and collaborations on clinical, biological, and behavioral studies in cancer and cancer prevention including novel therapeutic and drug discoveries, prognostic and predictive biomarker developments, chemoprevention, high throughput genomics, proteomics, epidemiological studies, health outcomes and behavioral research, comparative effectiveness research, clinical trial designs, and personalized medicine studies. Many of these projects draw upon Moffitt’s Total Cancer Care initiative, which provides access to a comprehensive set of clinical and molecular data on a large number of cancer patients. The Ideal Candidate: • We seek candidates with experience and expertise in behavioral statistics who can contribute to the many current health outcomes and behavioral studies at Moffitt, as evidenced by a history of peer-reviewed publications and involvement in grant supported research projects. Ongoing research includes interventions focusing on smoking cessation and relapse prevention, improving cancer screening participation, health disparities, and improving post-treatment quality of life. • Preference will be given to applicants with an outstanding record doing team science or collaborative research with an emphasis in social and behavioral science. One project is a National Science Foundation funded grant evaluating the impacts of mathematical language instruction on mathematics and spatial skills in preschool children. Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health National Institute on Aging Intramural Research Program TENURE-TRACK INVESTIGATORS The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting four (4) Tenure-Track Investigators within its Intramural Research Program (IRP) in Baltimore and Bethesda, MD. Each position includes an attractive set-up package and operating budget, including access to comprehensive NIA core facilities and to the unique and extensive resources of the NIH. Eligible candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. (or M.D., Ph.D.) or equivalent doctoral degree in the Biomedical Sciences, unless indicated otherwise below. The incumbents will play a major role in training staff and postdoctoral fellows and maintaining research continuity within the Laboratory/Branch, as well as developing a network of intra- and extramural collaborations. The successful candidate will have a strong background and extensive experience in psychology and neuroscience, including expertise in cognitive assessment and neuroimaging measures of brain structure and function, as well as the neurobiology of individual differences in cognitive function. An extensive database of cognitive, personality, and neuroimaging data are available through the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. The successful applicant will play a role in overseeing the ongoing acquisition and analysis of these data and is expected to utilize these data (in addition to other collaborative datasets) in her/his research program. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated experience at the interface of psychology, neuroimaging (structural and functional MRI, amyloid and tau PET, and image analysis), and genetics. These areas include advanced MR physics and engineering; statistical methods in parameter estimation, incorporating appropriate pulse sequence design and modifications; experience in both pre-clinical and clinical instrumentation and corresponding experimental design and applications; translational work incorporating novel physics-based techniques for human brain studies; knowledge of and expertise in CNS changes in aging and dementia; and ability to incorporate multiple MR outcome modalities into a unified framework for brain assessment. The position requires research experience in aging and age-related disease. An ideal candidate would have experience developing translational research from the findings of epidemiological studies. The successful candidate will have a strong record of scientific accomplishments, peer recognition, and interest in interdisciplinary research focused on the connection between the biological mechanisms of aging, the phenotypes of aging, and their role in conditioning the decline of physical and cognitive function that occur in many older persons. Applicants with a broad range of interests will be considered, but preference will be given to those with demonstrated experience in the areas of biomarkers of aging, novel state-of-the-art assessment of physical function and physical activity, and behavioral and environmental risk factors and relevant causal pathways that increase or decrease the chance of healthy and productive aging. In addition, the incumbent is expected to be involved in the operational aspects of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) and to conduct research on data generated from the BLSA.
